The Touch Bar of your MacBook Pro changes to show the function keys for you to select, and then it returns to its previous state when you release the Function key.

For some apps, you can make the function keys display permanently in Touch Bar:

In Mac parlance, Options are called Preferences, and like any other Mac application, you can find the Preferences menu item under the application menu (the one with the application name, just to the right of the Apple menu).

You can also use the Windows on-screen keyboard to access function keys:

  1. From the Windows menu, select the Windows Ease of Access menu item.
  2. Click On-Screen Keyboard.
  3. Click the fn key. The function keys appear in the on-screen keyboard.

  1. In the Windows System Tray, click the up arrow to show additional icons.
  2. Click on the dark grey diamond-shaped Boot Camp icon.

  5. Click the Keyboard tab.

If so, then the firmware password function has been invoked. If you have not yet tried, try clicking the righthand button without entering anything in the password entry box.
Unfortunately, if you can not get past it, and it's real, you will not be able to boot the machine to any disk or volume unless you know the required password. It is a reasonably serious level of security, originally directed toward owners of portable machines.
There is a way that such a password can be disabled. For reasons of security, even if we do know the solution we do not post it in these forums - since these forums are accessible by anyone, even by those who have not registered, posting the solution could help nefarious types gain unauthorized access to machines. To find out how to do it, contact Apple's Tech support, or an AASP (Authorized Apple Service Provider).
